My Cake Smash & First Birthday Sessions are all inclusive.  This means you don't have to choose your images for a price, you just get the entire session content through temporary online personal gallery ready to make prints or anything you wish.

The number of images you get is determined by how the session goes and my aim is to get as much as I can for you. You can expect a very minimum of 30 images

Go with the flow.

Every baby is different.

- Some want to snuggle for a while.

- Some are super excited & dive straight into the toys.

- Some love to be naked, or in a nappy.

- Some are super speedy, crawling or walking.

- Some are happy to sit & play.

& whatever they fancy doing on the day, it always works perfectly.

You see I don't have a set plan. Or X, Y, Z shots we have to get.

I don't need them to sit in a certain position so the light is 'just right'.

I capture beautiful shots of your baby simply doing whatever they are happiest doing.

So how does a cake smash work?...

I like to keep things super relaxed, pretty much like a very fun play date. 

We start with the playtime singing, we play with bubbles and your baby can take their pick from the toys that I have in the studio. All the while I snap away, capturing every giggle and smile.

Then out comes the cake, which is so much fun and very messy for everyone involved. Babies always love this bit and we get some fantastic photos while they play and have a  whale of a time.

These sessions take 60 min and are shot in the mornings in my studio.

I suggest to contact me as soon as possible because I take limited number of clients each month.  

how to book

To proceed with a booking, please confirm your preferred date with me.

Payment of a $100 deposit (deducted from the total session fee), secures your session with THE FITZROYS PHOTOGRAPHY. Deposit is non-refundable. The remaining balance is due the week of your session.  

To confirm your booking this deposit must be paid and the online contract e-signed.

how young should my baby be for the session?

At times first birthday sessions are booked around child’s 10 months mark - allowing for sufficient time in preparation for birthday celebration (if you wish to use your images as party invitation). Most common time is around the 11 months mark, to represent the true time of baby’s milestone.

can parents be in the photos?

Yes! there is a choice of the family birthday session which includes portraits with parents and siblings

will the cake be supplied for the session?

Cake must be sourced & supplied by client due to allergies. Feel free to have this done for your session by a pro or just do it yourself. We will work together on a simple colour theme during the planning for your session process and I will offer you some cake examples for inspiration.

what do i bring and what do i wear?

A session in details will be discussed in a guide that explains all. I have small range of baby clothing you are welcome to use if you wish. The what to wear inspiration guide will be discussed with those who book!

What do we do if my baby is unwell?

I take all the precautions to limit any risk of spreading infections, especially that many of my clients are newborn babies arriving to studio at just few days old. Please notify me as soon as there is a suspicion that your baby might feel unwell. If your baby presents as unwell on the day of the shoot, we will also need to reschedule. We will reschedule your session for a new session spot at a later stage or as close to the original date as possible!

I hope this puts your mind at ease knowing that to update my training I recently spent the day refreshing my First Aid and CPR.

Your baby and your family are my number one priority.

What is my TURN-A-ROUND TIME?

From there, my turn-a-round time for delivery of your gallery (via private online gallery link) is approximately 40-60days. I always edit in the order that I shoot, so that its fair and reasonable for everybody that books me. Out of respect for this, I can’t edit “one or two” images and send to you in the event of a special occasion (birthday, mothers day, Christmas etc). Regardless of the time of year, my turn-a-round time stays the same.

can i book for the home session at the weekend?

If you require session to take place over the weekend, if possible, I will do my best to accomodate you. For all the weekend session bookings there is a fee of $200 (Newborn, Family), or $100 (Baby, Maternity, First Birthday). These are scheduled for the mornings.

MINIMAL, NATURAL AND ALL ABOUT YOUR BABy.

I want to see your babies personality, capture them having fun & seeing them play.

But to do this they have to be free.

Free to move around, play with whatever they choose & have fun.

I want your photos to remind you of your baby at that age.

Not just what they looked like, but everything about them.

You get told "they grow so fast" more times than you can count in that 1st year.

I'd always feel this pang of sadness when I heard it.

But I realised that all of this worrying was just in my head.

Yes they do grow so fast, but it's wonderful.

You experience every stage with them.

From a tiny newborn, to sitting up & starting to say their first words.

& that bond you have just gets stronger, as do their awesome little personalities.

So for me this was simple.

I created natural alternative to the jazzy first birthday photographs you normally see.

Alternative that includes you.

1ST BIRTHDAY CAKE SMASH

It is like baby sensory play, but rather than letting them loose with paints or play dough, they're presented with a birthday cake.

Some babies get really into the spirit of the cake smash and get stuck in, while others gently prod the icing and delicately nibble. Either way you'll love seeing their individual personalities shine through when they're presented with the yummy cake.

For me the core point of a cake smash session is for your baby to have a fantastic time. We'll be singing, playing and generally just having lots of fun, plus I capture all of your babies smiles and excitement on camera so you have beautiful photos to treasure.

on the day

My studio is equipped with natural wood toys, but you may want to bring baby’s favourite one or a keepsake toy along too. We will sing and clap, we will play and have bubbles.

Babies tend to wear some sweet clothing on (natural, neutral) for the part of the session where we create the lovely portraits at play.

After that, I encourage parents to take the clothing off and leave them playing wearing the nappy or keeping bottom half only (cute nappy cover maybe?). This way we get to see how they curl their toes, the fast disappearing thigh rolls and how they crawl or waddle in their own unique way!

We mark the occasion decorating simply with white balloon that they love to tug (great shots there!) or having a simple letter ONE sign – nice play opportunity too. I supply all this, and other decorations like cake stands or greenery for subtle decoration.

Memories that matter

Photography gives us the chance to capture those perfect fleeting moments to treasure forever.

These images should be displayed in your home as a wonderful reminder of how small they once were, but planning, printing and organising photos is a challenge, especially with little feet running around.

That's why your session includes a personally designed, printed collage featuring 4 beautiful images from your session.

12x12 inch fine art four image collage print will be available within approximately two weeks after we finalise your choice of images.
